SCHOOLS ARE A FOUNDATION FOR GOOD HEALTH

Health and learning are closely connected. Students who go to school feeling well are ready to learn and more likely to be successful.

There are many ways that schools shape health. For example:

  • When nutritious food is served at school, it’s easier for kids to eat well
  • When students get to move and play during instruction, they’re active and engaged
  • When teens have a trusted adult they can turn to at school, they feel connected and supported

WHAT MAKES A HEALTHY SCHOOL

Healthy schools have wellness as their foundation. They make health a part of everything they do – from infrastructure to innovations, from instructional practices to community partnerships.

In Alberta, we use the comprehensive school health framework (CSH) to make healthy schools a reality. It’s our guide to making improvements that are coordinated, effective, and likely to last.

TAKING ACTION ON SCHOOL HEALTH
